    A question for members

How many of you think or feel that forums tend to be run as if they are a "totalitarian regime"?

I'm asking as a certain gun forum has banned me until 10/1 BUT nobody has informed me of any transgression I may or may not have made. There was no warning or notice but I only found out when I tried to log in a couple of days ago.

Does Gunsnet operate on the same lack of "due process" or is a member notified or admonished prior to being banned? Are they allowed to defend or modify a post they made or are they just "kicked out" ?

First, and most obvious, question to ask is this:
There are other gun forums? Gunsnet isn't the ONLY ONE!?!

In all honesty, I have no idea how other sites are run (but can imagine).
World is full of insecure people with delicate, oversensitive feelies.
The types that just love to wield power.

This place has been my 'on-line home' for over 20 years and I barely have time to come here anymore.

Never been banned or even gotten a warning.
Did receive a PM many years ago about pics of a build that might have been of 'questionable legality'.
That was another member who was looking out for me, which is why I like this place.

    So...which site was it?

Gunsnet is probably the most open of all firearm websites. You really have to work hard to even get a warning.

Too bad that we have become such a small community, where we all know each other very well and know that we can pull someone's chain and know it is all in fun. Seriously it is nice having a nice community but I do long for the days that we had enough members that every now and then someone would pull the wrong chain and get flushed.

I won't mention any names (but you can probably figure out who I'm referring to) but we had two "lefties" who kept things stirred up whenever they posted their usual nonsense. If nothing else, they kept things moving here....

Not saying I miss them, but they had their uses, I guess.

If they were SMART lefties, then perhaps, but I don't like "drive by" "passive aggressive" bouts of "intellectual dishonesty". An 'honest' lefty can openly debate their viewpoint I suppose. I rarely see them EVER try to defend their viewpoints with facts or logic. Usually it's either INSULTS or distortion of the conversation.

I would LOVE to have an intelligent debate with a lefty. But I've never had one. Either they don't know anything, they get mad when I challenge their misconceptions, or they just insult my side of the aisle.

The two I was referring to were LAGC and Kadmos. (I hope I didn't just Beetlejuice them...)

They stayed around for quite a while.

To add to what has been said already...just look at how long LAGC and Kadmos (oh God...Candyman) were allowed to hang around here, before being finally given a timeout. It's a testament to how open and inclusive this site is. The lefty I really miss, however, is Smegma (may he rest in peace). Now there was a lefty who knew how to debate, with a quiet confidence and reasoned arguments.

But to JT's original question...yes, most gun sites, in fact most forums in general, are run like small fiefdoms, by thin skinned weenies who believe they now wield some sort of power. Hell, there's a music site I visit where even a mention of anything politically right leaning will get you chastised...because as we all know, there has never been an intersection of politics and music ever in history...

    To aknut's point...I have a theory...

As a long time IT professional, when the whole idea of "cloud computing" came out, I personally thought it to be the stupidest, most short sighted idea ever introduced into the IT world. Wait, you want to keep all your data, sensitive or not, stored somewhere it could be confiscated or held hostage by entities you've never met and only trust by some sort of ginned up reputation? Has the world gone mad? Well...yes...that was the beginning of madness, and it was designed that way, by all those lovely folks who've decided they know better than use plebes.

GNS was the largest site of its type in its heyday, with more smith and build info than any other site, bar none. Barfcom was already under control by leftard weenies, but GNS was footloose and fancy free...thus it needed to be destroyed.

I believe the hosting service for the GNS database was pressured into taking the site down, by the powers that be, and that they refused to give up the database files knowing that the only way GNS owners would be able to get said database was through lengthy and costly litigation. And I'm sure the powers that be promised the hosting site unlimited funds to fight such action, should it proceed.

And presto...the largest gun site with the most relevant (and subversive, from the perspective of the oligarchs) information...went "POOF!"

    Huzzah!

Was going to say, I was binned from a certain ar site we all know simply for mentioning I was a member here. Too funny and I don't miss it a bit.
