Two Important Pro-Gun Bills Hanging in Jeopardy Ohio’s Lame-Duck Session Teeters

Charlotte, NC --(Ammoland.com)- Before the summer recess, the Ohio Senate passed Senate Bill 239 and Senate Bill 247.

These bills now are now are before the House of Representatives for consideration. However, because the November election which resulted in the change of party power, the Democratic controlled House of Representatives recently announced the possible cancellation of the November lame-duck voting schedule thus killing both pro-gun initiatives.

SB239, sponsored by State Senators Shannon Jones (R-7) and Tim Shaffer (R-31), would eliminate the current confusing standards of carrying a firearm in a motor vehicle. In addition, the proposal would also allow permit holders to carry a firearm for self-defense in a restaurant that serves alcohol, provided they are not consuming, thus eliminating another “victim zone” in Ohio.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Republican state representative pulled off a rare legislative feat on Tuesday in attempt to force a vote on a pair of gun-rights bills - one that could allow firearms in bars and restaurants that serve alcohol.

Rep. Danny Bubp, a Republican from southwest Ohio, got a bipartisan coalition of 50 lawmakers to sign a petition to bring the measures to the floor.

House passes motions to discharge; Media coverage of historic discharge petitions show work still needs to be done

The Ohio House passed Rep. Bubp's motions to discharge SB239 (Restaurant & Car Carry Rules Fix) and SB247 (Restoration of Rights) today by 56-37 and 55-39 margins respectively, proving that these bills have large bi-partisan support, and deserve to be given votes in an as-yet-to-be scheduled session.

The Ohio media are swinging into action to cover the latest efforts to get SB239 and SB247 the floor votes gun owners were promised in the House.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Lawmakers won't get a chance to vote on a pair of controversial gun bills despite a rarely used parliamentary procedure from House Republicans that gave backers hope for passage.

Outgoing House Speaker Armond Budish, a Beachwood Democrat, said Thursday that the 99-member chamber has closed up shop for the year, which means that a pair of gun measures won't come up for a vote.

Bill (re)introduced to restore gun ownership right to Ohio citizens

Submitted by cbaus on Thu, 01/27/2011 - 15:00.

Buckeye Firearms Association (BFA) has announced that a bill to restore gun ownership rights has been introduced in the Ohio House.

Representativess Ron Maag (R-Lebanon) and Jarrod Martin (R-Beavercreek) introduced HB54, which contains language from SB247 in the 128th General Assembly. The bill will align Ohio law with federal statutes regarding the restoration of rights to Ohio firearms purchasers. The bill is co-sponsored by Reps. J. Adams, R. Adams, Balderson, Beck, Boose, Bubp, Derickson, Grossman, Kozlowski, Maag, Martin, McGregor, Mecklenborg, Uecker and Young.

Due to a U.S. Supreme Court decision, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) has stopped accepting Ohio's court orders restoring a citizen's right to own firearms. The purpose of this bill is to update Ohio's statutes to address this issue and protect Ohio citizens' legal rights under the law.
