That little jet reminds me of one that the Air Force was trying out back in the 50s or 60s. It was slung under a large jet (bomber?) and was dropped to provide fighter support IIRC. The problem was that it couldn't go that far nor could it reattach to the big plane and the program was dropped. The jet was called a "Goblin".
