Anti-gun advocates see new chance for microstamping bill

In June, State Sen. Eric Schneiderman’s attempt to pass a bill requiring semi-automatic weapons to be equipped with microstamping technology came up two votes short, thanks to strong opposition from the gun lobby.

That may be about to change: Not only is Schneiderman about to become the attorney general, but the man he is succeeding, Andrew Cuomo, has come out strongly in favor of microstamping as well, calling it “a common sense and low-cost method of expanding the ability of police to identify guns used in illegal activities.”
