These 4 World War movies were great. They had realism, character conflict, emotional resonance, action, and great storylines.
I would add to this list All Quiet on the Western Front.

I could add several others with a bit of thought, but the first that comes to mind is "Enemy At The Gates".

There are some things I will not abide within my sight!
Not being a fan of war movies, the only one of the 4 that are in the article that I have seen is "The Great Escape".
“I have little patience with people who take the Bill of Rights for granted. The Bill of Rights, contained in the first ten amendments to the Constitution, is every American’s guarantee of freedom.” - - President Harry S. Truman, “Years of Trial and Hope”
Agree with All quiet on the western front(remake especially), another one is bridge at remagan, oh hell there's too many to mention. I have over 2500 dvd's and there's a crapload of great war movies. DAS BOOT is one of my all time.
I would have to add the movie The Beast to that list, too.

Only seen spr, the beast, and 1917, very good movies.
"And how we burned in the camps later thinking, what would things have been like, if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain, whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family?"
That's probably true about most war movies, especially the good ones.
Most people aren't going to go to the movies to watch a documentary.....they wanna see a good story with lots of action and drama, they wanna see heroes and villains, and characters that they care about and want to watch. There was a time when they made movies people wanted to see, but they weren't always completely faithful to the original events.
Where are we going and why are we in this handbasket???
They call that "artistic license" and use it often. For example in Braveheart about all they get right is the brits killed his gf to get to him and he set every fort he could on fire, oh yeah the drawing and quartering took place, after they dragged him a few dozen miles wich was hardly portrayed in the film. On the Rome miniseries they portray Atia Julii as a huge urge-driven ho but the historic record says otherwise. Gatta make a movie exciting somehow right?

They're telling a story....everyone tends to embellish the tale they tell to keep their audience's attention and make it interesting.
Not even close to being historically accurate but you gotta admit Braveheart was a pretty entertaining movie.....I enjoyed watching it.
I accept the fact that the movies are not a good source for factual and accurate historical documentation and just sit back and enjoy the show knowing it's mostly bullshit.

I'm an avid DVD collector, probably 1500-2000 movies at the present. I'm starting a list of all the war movies and movies that partly involve war. I'll have the name of the movie the war/era and my rating for it. I'm only down to the N's at this time, if you guys are interested I'll continue and post the complete list when I finish? I'll be having back surgery(Spinal implant to block pain) and I'll be sitting around even more than usual so it would keep me busy while recovering.

Also hoping the surgery goes as planned and you get relief from the back pain.
When is it scheduled and do you have any idea when you'll be back on line?
Keep us updated, you're on the prayer list.
Thanks a bunch Alismith and Nobeard. I get it done Friday morning. It only takes a few hours, They slide a couple electrodes up into the spinal canal in a certain area already determined by the trial which i already did and bury the wires and transmitter/battery under the skin. No big deal, it's reversible if it doesn't benefit me or causes other problems. They'll turn it on in a week at my post op. Hopefully I'll get some relief and be able to actually do things again, maybe even go back to work for a year before I officially retire(though I stopped working this past spring). Appreciate the prayers and thoughts guys! Probably be back on the same night on more pain killers. About a 6-8 week recovery before I can do jack shit. Have to wear a special "suit" whenever i'm up and about to prevent the electrodes from moving about for that period of time.
