    Question .45acp Ammo?

What is your favorite .45acp ammo for defensive purposes?

I've tried Federal Hydra Shok 230 gr.
Some Remington Golden Sabers, and a few others.

    What do you like?

I'm not real picky. My .45 has mixture of ball, Golden Saber +P's, Gold Dots and Winchester Bonded HP's. Somethings gotta work, right?

230 grain anything - the 45 ACP made its manstopper name with ball ammo. I figure anything that expands at all will do - and I don't feel a bit under armed with ball ammo.

Store bought I use 230 gr hardball, home rolled I use 230 gr LRN except my mold throws a little bit light like 226, I doubt if anybody will notice the difference. I have a quantity of 200 gr LSWC but I'm a dinosaur, I like big and heavy.

Nothing against the others but I get complete reliability in my old gun shooting this stuff and reliable means more to me than a little bit of expansion when the entrance hole is already nearly half an inch wide. If I need a bigger hole I can stick my finger in the hole and wiggle it around till it stretches out a little bit.

Just make sure its 230 grain, bonded, hollow point, and made by a reputable manufacturer. I prefer Gold Dot.

I still use 230 ball, depending on hole size alone to get me through In my 9mm's I use HP's hoping they get to 45 size.

230gr seems to be favored here so far for sure.

I've got Corbon DPX, Pow'r Ball, and Starfire in mine.
How do you compromise with someone when their idea of compromise is to give them what THEY want?

Gold Dots or Hydra shok but mostly just 230 fmj or lrn for practice.

You can get Win. Ranger without being a LEO. Adding to what AKTexas said, CDNN does on occasion have deals on Ranger ammo, so does ammoman.com. I got 9mm Ranger 147gr fmj from ammoman a few months back. Only issue i've heard of is if the actual gunshop itself not selling "LEO" ammo to civilians. I got the LEO .45 acp hydrashoks on gunbroker couple years back for my own stash, same stuff I used to carry on duty.

I have Speer Gold Dot 230 gr. jhp. Wish I could afford more. I hear that Hornady has some new stuff out that is supposed to be superior to all.
    Can't remember what it's called.
