I've tried Federal Hydra Shok 230 gr.

    What do you like?
I plink with UMC Yellow box .45 ACP (230 grain round nose) or Fiocchi 230 grain. For carry it's 230 grain Federal Hydrashocks.

Maybe I'm thinking of something else...
Winchester markets Ranger ammo as "LEO Only" but it's just their policy and it means nothing.

    Can't remember what it's called.
Their xtp hp is supposed to be really good...think fiocchi uses it in their hp. They also added .45 acp to their critical defense line.

Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep for ever."--Thomas Jefferson

I don't think you can go wrong with any reputable manufacturer. If you do your part, the bad guy won't notice the difference.

As someone who was forced to use plain old HB; trust me, it all works.

Another vote for Winchester Ranger RA45T 230 grain. Boxes are marked as being for law enforcement, but I've found it at more than one supplier.

I used to know a guy...

1st mag carried condition 1 and stacked in order, first two to the chest; Black Talon* & Glaser.

Bad guys been showing up with silent partner or other lately, next two to the chest; KTW*, armor piercing, green teflon.

Still a problem, next 4 to pelvis and/or head at discretion; Hensley & Gibbs #68, large meplat, hard cast alloy. They went out of business in '99 but if you want you can still find the mold.

Yeah the Critical Defense stuff is what I was thinking of.

185gr Speer Gold Dots during the summer, spring, and early fall out of my Kimber Compact CDP
230gr of the same out of my fullsized 1911s

During late fall and all winter I switched to CorBon Pow'r Ball; 165gr in both.

I'll probably do the same now for 9mm and 40 S&W in Ohio.
