My son took his first buck this weekend.

Heavy deer we did not weigh him.

This is one of those bucks we planned to cull. His left side had been broken off.It appears to have been shot but we are uncertain. He would have been 8 pointer. My son took him down with a double lung shot with my .308,74 yards. He left a huge blood trail for us to find.

Nice deer. Just remember, you can't eat antlers anyway.

Backstraps, tenderloins, and the rest is all stew meat.My buck ended up as pan sausage, backstraps, tenderloins.

Made jerky last year and was not pleased the way it turned out.Now the dried sausage is wonderful.I still have a bunch left over from last year.

My UPS driver gave me a ham last week.
I broke out the dehydrator and will be soaking the strips overnight.
Lemon pepper, teriyaki, both loaded with black pepper.

Is the dried sausage similar to summer sausage?

I was waiting on that day since before he was born...Very proud,I'm always proud of what he does but that day I have never been as much.I told him we celebrate the kill by thanking the animal and eating another. We ate barbecue for dinner.

    Thumbs up

What an accomplishment for that young man. The fact he is out hunting with his dad is the best feeling. Buck looks to have ate well this year.

    Congrads to your son!
