American accused of smuggling 80 guns into UK
A private security consultant has been accused of smuggling more than 80 guns from the US to the UK on scheduled passenger flights.

British police believe Steven Greenoe, 37, a former US Marine who lives in Shrewsbury, bought the weapons including Glock 9mm pistols, legally in gun shops in North Carolina and then put them in his hold luggage.
The alleged smuggling operation was discovered after weapons seized from criminals in the North West of England were traced back to America. One of them was found to have been used in a drive-by shooting in Manchester.
Mr Greenoe was stopped at an airport in Raleigh, North Carolina in July as he attempted to board a flight to Manchester via New York. He had 16 weapons and ammunition magazines in his luggage.
He is said to have taken the weapons out of the US without an export licence on more than a dozen flights to the UK over a period of five months.
After being stopped he told investigators that he knew he wasn’t supposed to bring the guns in his luggage, but was doing so to sell them to employees of his security company. He said the company protects shipping from pirates.
Police believe the guns ended up in the hands of British criminals and have expressed amazement that Mr Greenoe was able to circumvent airport security measures to get them across the Atlantic.
He apparently did so by disassembling the weapons and distributing the parts in different pieces of his luggage. His lawyer described him as “very bright and well educated.”
Mr Greenoe holds residency status in the UK. According to US court documents he is accused of unlawfully shipping firearms on an airline without notifying officials, and doing so without an export licence.
The transatlantic police operation which led to him being detained included undercover officers following him to several gun stores in North Carolina in July. British police said the guns exchanged hands on the UK black market for as much as £5,000 each.
Police in the UK believe around 60 of the guns he brought into the country remain unaccounted for.
Mr Greenoe appeared in court in Raleigh in July and a judge ordered him to be held in custody pending the outcome of the case.
Counter-terrorism officials were also amazed and concerned by the security breach at a time when they have warned that terrorist cells in the UK could be trying to buy guns.

Only 80 guns what a piker. Make it 3000 guns and hand them out to shopkeepers and watch the crime rate go down in Manchester.

All of this hateful, racist rhetoric needs to stop! Brits know they are perfectly safe with pointless knives! As m. moore said, "areas with high gun ownership have low crime rates, so why would you need to own guns in these safe places"!

Englan is a shining example of why we need to constantly stay on our toes and never let our guard down!

In my eyes that would have separated him from the criminals and made him a patriot.

Former Marine Gets 10 Years for Gun Smuggling

Submitted by Mark Berman Opposing Views on Jan 11, 2012

A North Carolina judge has sentenced a former Marine to 10 years in prison for smuggling guns into the United Kingdom.

The Associated Press reports that 37-year-old Steven Greenoe smuggled 63 guns in his checked baggage. They were disassembled and disguised not to look like weapons. He then sold them to several people in Britain, where guns are very hard to come by.

    GBP5000/pistol? I don't follow the USD:GBP exchange closely, but I am sure that's at least USD7500.

From the article, it sounds like a pistol was used in a crime in the UK and they traced it from Glock to a US importer to a US gun shop and to him as the buyer. Some surveillance and increased suspicion, a better check of his luggage, and he was caught in the act.

So, if he had destroyed the serial numbers he might have gotten away with it. Or, if he had bought them face to face and not discolsed his identity (though the seller, once traced, would have given them a description, at least, which could have led to him).

I have good friends in the UK who are avid shooters and compete in matches (using, essentially, straight pull bolt action AR's!) and their gun laws there suck. However, I don't support this kind of activity, I am just analyzing the situation.
