This was a noticed posted on Century's website about their PSL-54C rifles. This was originally posted by Century back on 12-20-07.

georgep, in the future please include specific as to the firearms involved and a link to the original information.

Why does the ATF think these ones are machine guns? I might have to dig mine out and check it.

IIRC, they were cut for rate retarders or had rate retarders.

Standard ATF stupidity because as far as I know, the PSL was never available in full auto or select fire. I thought PSLs and variants were all semi-auto only.
Evidently accidentally or even intentionally drilling an extra, yet useless hole in the receiver makes it a baby killing machine-gun.

Yup. Military PSLs have a safety sear, which the ATF calls an auto sear, and is therefore to close too being a machinegun. So in order to satisfy bureaucrats, our rifles had to have an important safety feature removed, "for our safety".

Now that makes perfect sense to me. REMOVE a safety so teh gun is SAFER. Next thing they will outlaw a trigger so it deos not go BOOM.
PLEASE let us hope NOBODY looks down the barrel to see where the bullet comes from.
