    Question Odd GP 100

Found a GP 100 coming up at an estate auction that I haven't seen before. It's a stainless model with a 4" half lug barrel, short grip and bobbed hammer. It's marked .357 mag and has a CAI import stamp so I'm guessing it was a run for a foreign military or police department? Anyone know anything about it model and or it's value?

Ah, looks like maybe Canadian police trade-ins. The one in the auction link below looks identical to the one I found only it's a 3", not a 4".

I've heard people say they were for some European police agency, no idea if it's true or not. Considering the reasonable price they seem to get on auctions and at shows I'd say any extra value at this point is pretty speculative.

Canadian is my guess. 6-8 years ago I picked up a couple of DAO, 4" 686's (IIRC) that were CAI imports and I believe the SCSW confirmed them as issue for some Canadian police dept.

These sound like the same set up, only Ruger instead of S&W.

The 3" at AA is just an example I linked tosince it has the same grip, hammer and half lug bbl as the one I'm asking about. The one I found locally is a 4"bbl. Between the two the 3" is a nicer looking, handier gun.

    Richard,
My 31st Blue Book does not list any special models other than high gloss stainless in 3" and 4" barrels manufactured only in 1996. The regular stainless is $540 for 100% and $410 for 98%. High gloss stainless is $485 for 100% and $375 for 98%. MSR on them is $679 and $457, respectivley.
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice, in practice, there is.

NO, that auction link is just for comparison. The one I'm looking at is in a local estate auction and is a 4" barrel.

I would consider the 4 inch version less desirable then the 3 inch, so if you can watch auctions for the 3 inch version and subtract whatever you think is fair it might give you a fair bidding price (you might think otherwise of the 4 VS 3 inch barrels). I also don't consider a bobbed hammer that great a feature either, again I would subtract some value for that. IMO configured like the above revolver I don't think I'd give much over $350.
