At one time I made some good money making and selling caliber adapters, basically 4mm steel rings that allowed 9x19 to shoot safely in a 9mm largo pistol or rifle. I wouldn't shoot a 40 out of an unmodified 10mm barrel but using a ring would probably work.

I have an old issue of Guns&ammo that says it's OK to do. I don't know that I'd want to do a whole lot of it.

I would not do it,but a 10mm to .40 S&W barrel or .357 sig barrel from Stormlake would work.

If I were in a pickle and only had my G20 and 40 S&W ammo - then I'd use it but not otherwise.

The extractor has to hold the case as it isn't going to be supported by the chamber front.

Surly and I did that about 2 yrs ago with his Glock. Worked just fine. I wouldn't advise doing it in a Delta Elite or other 1911-type frame, but the Glock did just fine. Not sure if it'd work in a Witness or a S&W 610, but I know it works in a Glock (which still won't convince me to get one).
How do you compromise with someone when their idea of compromise is to give them what THEY want?

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I wouldn't recommend doing it on a regular basis but I've shot .40 out of my G20 and the Witness I had.

It worked fine, no problems at all.

If you're gonna do it on a regular basis get a conversion barrel, but if the necessity should arise I'd use .40 in a pinch.
