the 10/63 rifles are demilled military kits built on WASR receivers in Romania.

Ah, that's what I thought - so the trunions are marked such.... thanks.

That probably explains why they generally are of good quality - on the front end anyway...

I hope that's what my UF is.

All of the Romanian kits that I built on were straight and of higher quality than the WASR's being sold at the time =- the reason that I never bought a WASR reviously.

I was skeptical about the new underolders, but when I checked out one my dealer had I was impressed. The stock had zero wobble, and the kit they built it from was nice. Only problem was no dimples and a bad finish, but those are the defining qualities of the WASR.

    UPDATE ON MY NEW 10/63

Well, I now have 800 rounds through my 10/63 and I have to say that I am more than very impressed with this gun. Not a single fail to feed or fail to fire. No fail to eject or failures off any kind. I can hit what I'm aiming at, to 200 yards and with a bit more practice I should be getting consistent hitting at 300 yards. This is without a doubt one of the most affective defensive weapons ever offered for the money. Reliable and very accurate. All in all, probably the best buy I have ever made on a defensive weapon. I did add the Tapco Grip for a better feel. It may not look real pretty but it feels right and fits my hand much better than the stock grip. I am all about performance not looks. I know from what I've read about the Rommey's that they are considered bottom barrel AK's but I am here to tell you that mine is more than I could have asked for.

Ebay has a couple of Russian made wood grips that would look great on your gun.

I think it would really improve the look of that weapon to add a wooden pistol grip stained the same as the rest of the furniture, and put a cleaning rod under the barrel.

Also some people like to polish or at least de-blue the bolt carrier. Its a small change but it really contrasts with the black steel and red wood.
That sounds like a good idea. Is it difficult to de-blue?

A wood pistol grip would really set it off. Available on Ebay.

    because they also make a 5.45 and a 5.56 version, too see "10/63" immediately indicates a 7.62 x 39 weapon.

The wood on the Romy WASR's is abysmal, but the weapon works fine and that is what counts. I own two of them, sanded, stained and Formby tung oil on the wood and they look better but never going to be perfect and that is fine. I also stripped and cleaned them with acetone, handled with rubber gloves and used Alumahyde II to refinish, in my shower stall! Masking with plastic and cardboard eliminated the mess. If you want to do this, a good idea is DO watch the Brownells' video about painting with Alumahyde

The heat gun is NOT an option, i got mine for $14 from harbor freight. 3 dust coats and one good one, then ignore the can and bake the parts for 200 degrees F for 5 hours and it is almost as good as gunkote.
Despite what Brownell's says, Alumahyde is fairly tough and scratch resistant but by no means solvent proof! keep gun scrubber, hoppes and brake cleaner AWAY from the finish! I clean the internal receiver with WD 40 or windex, the barrel does get hoppe's. carefully and do avoid spatter. I soak the bolt in acetone then blow it out with air, then a couple drops of CLP or syn motor oil. That is all you need to do to keep your refinished WASR good (don't count on touching up later with the alumahyde, it doesn't seem to work).
