    Even without its history, that's one nice double rifle. I like that front sight hood. I've never seen anything like that before.

    Ammunition can still be found for it. Both Kynoch & A-Square load the .577 Nitro Express. Each use a 3" case with a 750gr. bullet. Both list a muzzle velocity of 2050 ft/sec. which creates muzzle energy of about 7000 ft-lbs. And it's expensive. Over $25 per cartridge.

    He hunted German U-boats with it. Would have been interesting to see what would happen if he had actually gotten to shoot at one. I don't think he would have punctured the hull, but I bet it would have made a heck of a racket inside the boat.

    I have to disagree, if he was close enough that bullet would most definitely have penetrated the hull, the black powder express might not have but it would have been pretty audible. 750 grains of lead at 2000+ fps is a whole bunch of energy focused on a very small point of impact.
