    The 45's

    45-70, 458 socom, 450 bushmaster, 454 casull & 45lc.

I know the 454 can use the 45lc but not the other way around(due to longer casing).
I know i could use the 454 heads to make 450's, but what about the 458's and 45-70's?

Just trying to see how many different loads I can make.

Moebrown, I'm sorry. I posted incorrect information. The .480 Ruger is not the same diameter as the .45 colt or .454 Casull.

I got the .480 Ruger and .460 Smith & Wesson reversed. The .460 s&w is the same diameter as .45 colt. The .480 Ruger is not.

Had to look up the 460. Length wise, it's close to the same as a 556 nato (case 44.7m vs 46m). I'm gonna see if I can get a AR barrel for it and build an upper.

Post To set some records straight

    .45 S&W (Schofield) - 1.109"
    .45 Colt - 1.285"
    .454 Casull - 1.383"
    .460 S&W Mag. - 1.800"

The list above are of case lengths that are interchangeable. Any revolver chambered in .460 S&W Mag. will shoot all listed. There is no such things as a .45 Russian cartridge. There is a .44 S&W Russian but it uses a .429" diameter bullet. The .480 Ruger uses a .475" diameter bullet.

The .450 Bushmaster uses a .452" diameter bullet with a case length of 1.700". These can be made from .284 Winchester cases.

The .458 SOCOM uses a .458" diameter bullet with a case length of 1.575" but has an odd rim diameter, .473". The only other case that uses this rim size is the .425 Westley Richards. These cost about $4/case. So, typically you end up using factory .458 SOCOM brass.

The .460 S&W Mag. cartridge used a rimmed case. Typically not the most desireable in a semi-auto with a box magazine. Just my $0.02.

I have been looking for a .460 revolver for over a year just because of the flexibility of ammo that can be fired in them. On the 45 acp though won't you have to fire 45 auto rim in it's place? A rimmed cartridge usually head spaces off the the rim it's self, while a rimless will head space off of the case mouth. This will let the 45 acp fall through to far in an elongated chamber such as the 460 mag.

Yeah, If I can build an 460 on a AR platform, it would give plenty of options of ammo and reloads.

Just the info that was needed.
One question.... shouldn't the 450B be on that list since the case is 1.700?

The list consists of rimmed cases that are part of the same 'family'. It was meant to give you an idea of their interchangeability. The 450B uses a rebated case (rim diameter is smaller than the base diameter). That fact that the case length falls in the range listed shouldn't indicate they are interchangeable or a part of the same family. That's why I listed them as separate items in my original post.

I found out that ATI had a 410 smooth bore upper. Far as I see, it's discontinued. Maybe I could find a use one on GB.

Don't forget all the british 45s.
The 455 Webley is the most famous, but there are many others (even if not most are quite obsolete).

I bet you could get Tony Rumore at Tromix to make you a 460 AR barrel.... they used to make all kind of "lead delivery systems".

Hasn't been a priority, but I'm looking to get an AR15 upper in 50AE to compliment my Desert Eagle.

I plan on building a 40S&W AK next year. Just need to mod the magwell and barrel. The bolt needs little work.
