Opinions on the Savage EDGE XP?

I have gotten my girlfriend into shooting rifles now and she would like her own rifle but does not want me to spend a whole lot of money on it.She enjoys the .220 swift but there are not many choices for this caliber.I have wanted to get a 22-250 and figure this to be close enough to what she has been shooting.

I found a Savage EDGE XP 22-250 combo package for $294 shipped. This would be an entry level gun for her and then later on upgrade to something a little better unless this proves to be a great rifle.

    Any opinions on this rifle?

The receiver looks weird for some reason. I haven't heard any reviews on it as of yet.
Take a look at the Stevens 200 in 22/250. About the same price and shoots like a house afire. I have one in 223, and love it.

A good comparison between the Savage Edge and the Stevens 200 can be found at the link below.

I have no hands on experience with the savage other than handling it at the local shop, so my opinion for what it's worth. I do not like them, they seem really chinsy. If you can take a look at the mossberg ATR, the stevens and the marlin XL7. each of them seems to be a much better rifle than the edge. The only one I have experience with is the Marlin and I can't recommend it enough. no 22-250 version though, only 25-06 and .243
