    cavim ammo opinions needed

is cavim 308 surplus ammo any good?

Shot some out of an FR8 once, it all went bang just fine but made the bolt stick to the point where I had to whack it on the side of the shooting bench a couple of times to get it open. Might have been overly hot was my thinking at the time as Radway Green .308 did not do this during the same range session.

IIRC it was pretty decent surplus back 6-8 years ago, maybe longer. I seem to recall Shuetzenman posting about it either as something he used or sold in his store, could be mistaken.

    ;) Mmmmmmm-good

Haven't had any live CAVIM in some time but I have 400 cases that have been through my HK91 and M14 eight times. Good brass and I'll take your fired cases if you don't need them.

It goes bang everytime but it is trash for accuracy. I wouldn't pay 50 cents for it. Especially when there's cheaper and better surplus to be had via internet purchase.

http://www.wideners.com/itemdetail.c...dir=18|830|848 here some privi partisan new stuff that's boxer. 47 cents a round.

http://www.wideners.com/itemdetail.c...dir=18|830|848 Here is DAG surplus German 7.62 Nato. It has a thin metal jacket that makes it fragment very effectively, supposedly the most effective in this chambering for NATO ammo. 40 cents a round.

Our buddies Aimsurplus have the DAG even less about 39 cents / round. http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=A308Ger

The DAG is pretty good stuff. I've still got few hundred rounds from when Century sold it loose in old MG42 ammo cans. IIRC it was something like $.10 a round back then.
