    Question MSAR STG AUG

Not sure if it's the same gun or not but CDNN is offering the OD green, MSAR STG-556 (one ten rd mag) with 1.5 optic and welded compensator for under $1,099. Last I recall these things were selling for more than $1500 if not closer to $2K. Have prices dropped that much?

Now that they've been out for a while what's the opinion on these as far as value, reliability and in comparison to a standard AR platform?

    TIA

The market for an AUG clone is limited, then add that the MSAR used one of a kind mags that only looked like the Steyr mags, and you have something that not many people want. While there is a market for rifles that look like the great Steyr AUG, there is only so much people were willing to pay, and once that group was filled, there are many just laying around waiting to be sold somehow.

I personally am a big fan of the Steyr AUG, but prefer the real deal to a clone.

My 2 cents is that if you like the AUG but are not willing to pay the $3000 plus or minus that they are selling for, this MSAR from CDNN is a great deal.

I thought the clones now used AR mags?

My MSAR seems to work with AUG mags, I've heard they supposedly use mags propriety to the design but if they are I'm not seeing it? I've been seeing MSAR's at around $1000 for over 2 years now so if they were more they haven't been for quite a while.

The newer E4(?) model uses AR mags.

The E4 model uses AR mags.

The latest generation STG-556 uses both MSAR proprietary mags AND styer mags.

All but the latest generation STG-556 uses MSAR mags only.

I hope my memory is correct.

The AUG will always be one of those "holy grail" of weapons from my youth. If I could find one that takes AR mags I might jump on it.

I definitely need an STG-E4. Preferably a Black 16" carbine and a green 20" rifle. With a red dot on the 16" and a scope on the 20".

I wish I could find one around here for that price. I want to buy one but the only one I have seen has a 16" barrel and I want the 20" barrel. Also the north of $2000 price tag is well... I can't really aford that with the economy being what it is. I would like it in OD with the detachable optic.

I had to have the model that took the original mags, there's something about an AUG with a 42 rd mag that just looks "right" I also wanted a 16 inch barrel with the optics, my son comes home in about a week or so at which time it'll be his from then on

I thought I would like an Aug style rifle. Handled an MSAR and was not impressed. Didn't like the handling, and especially didn't like the mag insert and removal mechanics. Mags don't drop free.

If MSAR would drop their price on the E4 model to match the Sig-556, they would be able sell more. I'd like to have one but $1400 before optics, mags, and ammo is just too much.

Yep. Same here. And the one I played with when fully loaded seemed way to butt heavy/muzzle light for my tastes and comfort.
Exactly the opposite of what I'm accustomed to.
I flat out just didn't like it.

I wouldn't take one over an AR for a survival weapon/duty gun, but as a fun gun it would be tough to beat...

    Yeah. I suppose so.
Yet, I'm a poor broke mofo myself, so I still prefer to buy guns that will fill multiple roles.
I don't own a single "fun" gun at all that can't also be used in desperate times, under desperate circumstances.
I just cannot personally afford both types of guns.
    But that's just me.
