    New York State of Shock

Thanks to the crooked Tim Sullivan

(on the right) New York was one of the first states to require a license to carry a concealed pistol... and 'til this day New York is still arrogant about requiring a CHL (pistol permit) for pistols and they do not honor ANY other state's CHL.

"Crooked Big Tim's" bill required a permit to carry or own a concealed weapon, which eventually became law on May 29, 1911. However, with many residents unable to afford the $3 registration fee issued by the corrupt New York Police Department and guaranteed his bodyguards could be legally armed while using the law against their political opponents.

So... fast forward to today...... a woman from Tennessee came to see the 9/11 memorial in NY city and nicely asked a cop if she could check her weapon with him.

Well, welcome to the New York State of Shock... instead of a little hospitality for this nice Southern lady, they instead arrested her! Why? She of course didn't have a NY pistol permit!!!

A tourist from Tennessee waltzed into one of the most secure sites in the city — and politely asked a cop if she could check her weapon.
Instead, she was dragged out in cuffs.
Now, Meredith Graves, 39, is facing at least three years in prison for thinking New York’s gun laws are anything like those in the Bible Belt.
Graves, a fourth-year medical student, showed up at the memorial on Dec. 22 to pay her respects during a trip north for a job interview.

Mayor Bloomberg, with the help of the five district attorneys, has crusaded against the flow of illegal guns, especially from the South.

Out-of-state weapons have been used in a slew of homicides, including the murder of NYPD cop Peter Figoski on Dec. 12.
This part right here , Fucking stupid and has nothing to do with what happened.

I could seen this as being grounds for a larger suit.

I have mixed feelings on this one,

I support our gun rights and the 2nd and also believe in "what part of shall not infringe dont you understand"... but if this lady is smart enough to get a CCH license in her state of residence, just as its her responsibility to know where she can and cant carry in her state (eg. churches, sporting events) it is also her obligation to understand which states reciprocate carry licenses.

That is correct but however, do you really think that her ignorance of a states law, and the terms on which she was arrested, is grounds for THREE YEARS in jail?

I highly doubt she'll get 3 years in jail... yeah, she'll incur attorney fees, but I would be willing to bet that the charges will be reduced/dropped and at most she will get probation for those 3 years... all assuming her background is clean.

I absolutely agree with you though... you can't know all states laws and federal ones...

Remember my deal around this time last year? I went to Vegas, gun show, bought an M16 bolt for cheap, tried to board the plane with it in my carry on... I had no clue (yes, hindsight is a wonderful thing), the guy at the gunshow told me it'd be okay to take it on the plane in my carry on. This was the SOG company, I figured they're big enough company and that they'd know... wish I'd have put it in my checked baggage or asked before my bag went through the x-ray machine... my point is, I could have gotten my ass handed to me right there. Luckily, the TSA supervisor just escorted me and the bolt out of security, told me to mail it back home and to come back through security.

Just gotta love the hoops us law abiding citizens have to jump through so the Dems/libs can keep lying to themselves eh?

Well... I agree and disagree. Since I live in New York, I'm a "gun pessimist". That is, it's NATURAL for me to worry "is THIS legal, is THAT legal?".

In free states where people DON'T have to worry about penny-ante BS... I can imagine that the idea of being illegal in a different state would never cross a person's mind.

If you DRIVE into New York, do you naturally worry that your D/L may not be valid in NYS? Probably not. You never give it a thought... because it's never an issue.

(btw, any D/L is valid in NY)... just an example.

Welcome to New York State, and the city of the same name!

A visitor from a state with something like sensible laws finds out the hard way.

If, and when, the legal profession get their fill, the gun will be confiscated, and she will be let go with all the suitable admonitions, and a bad taste in her mouth for the entire northern USofA.

    Free Meredith Graves

    By The Editors

The Manhattan district attorney is reported to be in plea-deal negotiations with Meredith Graves, the nurse who faces serious felony firearms charges after bringing her Tennessee-permitted .32-caliber pistol to Ground Zero, apparently unaware of the fact that New York declines to recognize out-of-state concealed-carry licenses, and that New York City declines to recognize even New York State permits. Ms. Graves, upon seeing the no-guns sign at the memorial, naïvely asked a security guard whether it would be possible to check in her pistol; this attempt to comply with the posted rules resulted in her arrest, and could well result in her being sent to prison — for years. If reports of a plea bargain are accurate, then District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. recognizes that justice would not be served by this outcome, which speaks well of his sense of prosecutorial discretion. It would speak even better of him if the case were to be dismissed entirely, along with the similar prosecution of former U.S. Marine Ryan Jerome, who was arrested under similar circumstances.
