My local shop has a few of these GI 1911's for $399 BNIB. Good deal or walk away fast? I read that the parts are interchangeable with other 1911's so is it a good base to upgrade off of down the line? I don't have a 1911. Thanks

Have you fired one and if so, is it decent as far as accuracy out the box?
FBHO
yes, even their older ones are on par with $700+ guns.
you're only going to get so much out of a 'off the shelf" gun unless you put some time into it.

It's really hard to screw up a 1911, unless it was made by hand in Pakistan.
Thanks guys...I'm off to pick one up and wait my waiting period for the gov't to tell me it's alright.

Its a great 1911.
I have one under their other name, Rock Island Armoury.
I'm on my second and they both not only work flawlessly but accurately!!!!!!
I say my second because my brother liked mine so much that I gave him my first.
I currently have a WWI colt slide on it. It was ever so lightly tight for the first 3 rounds and now everyhing is smooth as a babys ass. What was rubbing is the side of the ejector.
I have also repleced the main spring housing with a WWII with lanyard loop type, and replaced the original fat grips with double diamond grips....
Yes I'm builting a WWII clone.....

$399 a good price? After taxes (5%) and background check fee ($13) it still came out less than $450.
FBHO
That is a perfect price for a 1911 that functions flawlessly and solidly.

Damn, now I want a new 1911... but I just spent all my play $$$ on a motorcycle...
A stop at brownells and a little know how and you can easily turn a 400 dollar 1911 into a top shelf gun. I personally like buying off the shelf 1911's with a solid base and working up from there.
