Oops, our old buddy officer Harless misses his disciplinary hearing

Officer Daniel Harless is still receiving paid time off, even after running out of sick days
The Canton Repository reported recently that a hearing for Officer Daniel Harless, the Canton police officer who was caught on dash cam video berating an Ohio concealed handgun license-holder and threatening to execute him, has been postponed yet again.
The article also reveals that Harless continues to receive sick pay, even though he is out of paid time off, thanks to a special clause in his union contract.

This is the guy who doesn't like citizens exercising their right to be armed or to even have a permit and threatened to cave in a mans head on camera. Not his finest moment. I fear he may soon be employed elsewhere doing something different than being a police officer. Everybody has a bad day sometimes but this guy seems to have more than his quota.

Was the CCW holder from Ohio or out of state? Not that it matters. What I want to know is why isn't this guy in jail? Did the CCW holder do something to antagonize the cop or did the cop just start beating him when he saw he had a CCW?

I saw the video, the CCW holder tried multiple times to speak to the officer in order to inform the LEO of being armed. The officer refused to allow citizen to speak repeatedly threatening citizen with jail for not STFU. Finally, citizen got out that he was armed and the LEO threatened to blow citizens head off.
After seeing the video, it appeared that whether or not the LEO was having a bad day, the LEO was the WRONG person to have authority over anyone. We have all had 'bad days' and been around others having a bad day, but this guy was over the top on anyone's scale. He should not have standing as a peace officer, this man is UNSTABLE.

Back in September, the union president said that due to "post-traumatic stress disorder," Harless could not assist in his defense or participate in the hearing as originally scheduled.
Too crazy to help with his defense but not too crazy to be a cop. ummmmmmm....hmmmmm

Internal affairs investigators accuse Harless of violating Police Department rules and regulations for cooperation with the public, deportment and treatment of persons in custody. Harless could be suspended or fired......
Why has he not been charged ?? Is there some reason he cannot be charged ??

There was a hearing on 12/15/2011 though Harless did not attend::

NewsChannel5 also obtained more than 700 pages of records on Harless from Canton police. The records showed there have been a total of 18 internal affairs complaints against Harless since 2000. In 15 of the cases, Harless was exonerated.

Harless became the subject of national attention after dash cam video of him yelling, cursing and making death threats during a traffic stop went viral in July.

A second dash cam video of a July 2010 traffic stop showing Harless exhibiting similar behavior surfaced one week later.

Ream did not make a decision during Thursday's hearing. He declined to comment to NewsChannel5 about when he will decide how to punish Harless

So I think what you mean is Aggravated Assault. I doubt the prosecutor would file. I view this as a major misconduct case and possibly a civil rights violation. Admittedly its been a while since I watched the video, but I cringed. It was bad. Even in a high crime zone.

This incident is a poster child for why the public is becoming ever more distrustful of authority figures.

IMO 80% of LEO's are good hard working mean and women. About 15% are marginal but about 5% should be GONE.

    I like the 10-80-10 model.
10% are criminal shitbags. 80% are just there doing a job. 10% are the ideal, head and heart in the right place cops. The 80% is influenced by whichever 10% is more favored by command in a given jurisdiction.

Never, ever tell a police officer you have a permit, or your armed! That is the quickest way to get shot, or worse! Cops freak out when a citizen is armed, they have been fooled into thinking an armed citizen is bad. Even with a permit, I've seen people arrested for carrying a concealed weapon and told that's for the judge to decide! Don't think for a minute your permit is a get out of jail free card.
I sold all my guns and ammo, now I live the quiet retired life.

Depends on where you live and the department you are dealing with. Madison Wisconsin just ponied up $10,000 for detaining and harassing a group eating at Culvers last spring. They weren't doing anything wrong, all were open carrying legally but some ninny called the police who arrived as they were leaving. Another town it would have been a "Hi how are you guys?", from the police but here they were run through the mill because Madison is a liberal enclave of anti-gun town administrators and police department. Fueled in large part by the University of Wisconsin and its huge student population and faculty of good little socialists. They did nothing like Harless though or it would have been a lot higher than $10,000.

Harless is just wired wrong and while he might be a fine guy at your side in a wild west shoot out I would not want to go drinking or camping or even watch a football game with him. The man isn't well and should not be in a service job looking after the public welfare.

The problem is the percentage of officers that will turn a blind eye to misconduct and cover for others. Just following orders, I'm sure.

In some jurisdictions you are required to.

I've been stopped a few times recently for speeding, always immediately notify the officer(even though I don't have to in MN) I have a weapon in my glove box or on my person and produce my carry permit, I've been thanked every time, only once did the officer ask me to keep my hands in plain sight on the wheel while he ran my info. Every time I never got a ticket, and in one case my insurance card was in the glove box with the gun and he said I'll take your word for it. Guess it depends on where you live how they treat you?(and how you treat them?)
