PISTOL
GRIP FITTING
The tang at the
rear of the pistol grip will fit into the slot at the
bottom of the trunnion. This tang is purposely oversized.
Due to different manufacturing tolerances/materials
on nearly every type of AK tested, this tang will have
to be fitted to your particular rifle.
Test fit
by inserting this tang into slot at base of trunnion,
sliding hand guard retainer onto front of pistol grip
and closing retainer locking lever. If you have a tight
fit, set the pistol grip aside and proceed to the next
assembly step. If tang will not fit into slot or the
locking lever will not close, proceed to the next assembly
step. If the tang will not fit into slot or the locking
lever will not close, proceed to step A below.
STEP
A: With sandpaper or a flat file CAREFULLY
REMOVE some material from top of tang. CHECK FIT. CAUTION:
Be careful not to remove too much material as this will
result in a loose fit. STEP
B: Repeat step A until you have a TIGHT FIT.
Detach pistol grip, set aside and proceed to the next
assembly step.
HAMMER RELEASE/TRIGGER
WIRE ASSEMBLY
Important: The
trigger wire is specifically formed to ensure proper
operation. DO NOT ALTER ITS SHAPE.
-
From
above receiver: slide the trigger wire (with wire
against right wall of receiver) past magazine well
through slot below trunnion block.
-
Insert
the conversion kits disconnector with original
disconnector spring into position on hammer release,
ensuring that the spring end is seated in the recessed
hole at rear of hammer release.
-
Insert
hammer release/disconnector into position formerly
occupied by the trigger.
-
Holding
new hammer release/disconnect in place, push trigger
pivot pin from left side through to right.
HAMMER ASSEMBLY
-
Duplicating
its orientation on the original hammer, install
the original coil hammer spring onto conversion
kits hammer.
-
Place
this assembly into position, ensuring that the coil
spring tails are in proper position pressing down
on trailing arms of hammer release.
-
Ensuring
that the trigger wire is against right receiver
wall and in place, push hammer pivot pin from left
side through to right.
-
Through
the magazine well, reinsert the original hammer/trigger
pin retaining spring back into its original position,
ensuring that it engages the retaining grooves on
both the hammer and trigger pins.
FRONT SIGHT
INSTALLATION
-
Insert
cylindrical plug into rifles sight hood with hole
vertical.
-
Seat
the conversion kits front sight block onto top
of sight hood.
-
Insert
sight bolt through top of sight block and loosely
screw down with a " Allen wrench. If necessary
adjust front sight slide until sight block is absolutely
vertical viewed from front. Tighten down sight bolt.
-
Using
a 1/16" Allen wrench tighten set screw to lock
sight bolt.
-
Insert
original front sight post into threaded recess of
front sight bolt and tighten down, setting sight
post height to your preference.
REAR SIGHT INSTALLATION
-
Tap
the hole originally covered by the rear sight leaf
at top of rear sight block with an 8-32 threading
tap.
-
Press
new rear sight into position, align holes and drive
roll pin through to secure front end of sight.
-
Insert
locking screw into vertical hole at back of sight
and tighten with 3/32 Allen wrench into hole tapped
in step one.
TRIGGER/PISTOL GRIP
INSTALLATION
At this point
the loose end of the trigger wire should be protruding
under the barrel from the slot at the bottom of the
trunnion.
-
Slide
loose end of trigger wire fully through slot at
rear right of the pistol grip.
-
Allow
pistol grip to hang from trigger wire and secure
hooked end of trigger wire through hole at rear
top of trigger.
-
Drop
trigger into its recess in pistol grip.
-
Slide
tang of pistol grip into trunnion slot and push
back until seated.
-
Capture
other end of pistol grip with lower hand guard retainer
and secure by locking back the small retainer lever.
-
Line
up holes in trigger and pistol grip and insert trigger
pivot pin from right side.
TESTING FIRE CONTROL
GROUP INSTALLATION
-
With
thumb, cock back hammer to ready position. Squeeze
trigger.
-
Repeat
step 1 several times, until satisfied that the firearm
is operating properly.
The trigger
should snap back to its ready position each time it
is pulled. If this is not the case review your assembly
steps, paying particular attention to possible binding
of the trigger wire.
GAS TUBE ASSEMBLY
-
Remove
wooden gas tube cover by rotating until it disengages
from tube. (Note: some wooden covers are very
tight. You may have to clamp the block end of the
tube securely in a vise to apply enough torque to
rotate the wooden part loose.)
-
Rotate
your new gas tube cover onto gas tube.
FINAL ASSEMBLY AND TEST
-
Install
GAS TUBE and lock down lever. Install BOLT/CARRIER
and RECOIL SPRING assemblies. Install CHEEKPIECE/TOP
COVER and STOCK. Screw down stock screw.
-
Position
halves of FOREGRIP around barrel/gas block and tighten
screws securely. (Do not over-tighten.)
-
Pull
back charging handle. Engage safety. Test safety
by squeezing trigger. Disengage safety. Squeeze
trigger. Repeat until satisfied.
