Detach and set aside the TOP COVER, RECOIL SPRING ASSEMBLY, BOLT CARRIER and GAS TUBE/UPPER HANDGUARD ASSEMBLIES, PISTOL GRIP and STOCK per disassembly instructions indicated in your rifles owners manual.

LOWER HANDGUARD

  1. Locate lever on lower handguard retainer at front of lower handguard next to the right side of the barrel.
  2. Lift lever up and all the way forward until the retainer is free to move forward towards the muzzle.
  3. Grip lower handguard firmly and pull forward and down until handguard is free of weapon.

REAR SIGHT

Rotate sight leaf to vertical. Depress exposed tip of flat leaf spring with screwdriver (this will require strong pressure) . Push sight leaf down to horizontal slots in sight well. Slide to rear and out.

FRONT SIGHT POST

Using your front sight adjustment tool, center the FRONT SIGHT SLIDE. (If you do not own this tool this item is available from our catalog). With the same tool, rotate the sight post counterclockwise until it is completely detached.

REMOVAL OF GAS BLOCK MOUNTED SLING LUGS

Certain civilian AK variants have the forward sling lug mounted on the gas block (gas cylinder) instead of the standard position on the lower hand guard retainer.

This lug gets extremely hot during firing, as does the barrel and gas block.

For SAFETY REASONS, no provision has been made to accommodate or expose this lug in the forward handguard assembly of the AKU-94 conversion set. The AKU-94 forward handguard cannot be attached if this lug is not removed.

At this point, should your rifle be configured in this fashion, you have two options.

OPTION ONE (Recommended)

REMOVE THE SLING LUG PER REMOVAL PROCEDURE, BELOW)(We STRONGLY RECOMMEND this option to avoid burn hazard.)

OPTION TWO (NOT recommended)

You may elect to omit the AKU-94 forward handguard assembly. The AKU-94 converted AK can be comfortably fired utilizing a standard two hand pistol shooting hold.

Should you elect to use this option avoid touching the barrel, gas block and sling while shooting as you normally would. We accept no liability for burns or other injury caused by failure to properly attach the AKU-94 forward handguard as recommended.

DO NOT cut away or remove the material between the two forward slots of the left side forward handguard to accommodate the sling lug. This will most certainly result in a BURN HAZARD. We accept no liability for burns or other injury caused by failure to properly attach the AKU-94 forward handguard as recommended

SLING SLUG REMOVAL PROCEDUREWhere to cut

Use a DREMEL TOOL (preferred) hacksaw or bolt cutters, cut away shaded portion, being careful not to mar the rifles finish. If your sling is not the locking type (not shown) you may now push out the remainder and continue the assembly procedure. If your sling slug is the locking type, leave the remainder in place and continue to the next step of the assembly procedure.
